Course Introduction | |
This is a relaxing and interesting laser remote sensing science course, which will help you to understand the world again with the "magic of light". From laser focusing on mobile phones to satellites mapping glaciers in space, we will explore how lasers are quietly changing our lives. Without any professional knowledge, you will: use a laser pen to experience the principle of distance measurement, and see how scientists use lasers to "measure the height" of Mount Everest; experience how laser radars reconstruct the eaves and corners of the Forbidden City through mobile phone AR; understand the science behind the planetary engine monitoring technology in "The Wandering Earth"; and even know how sweeping robots use lasers to find their way. The course has no complicated formulas and homework, only amazing science stories and simple and interesting experiments, which will let you discover: science can be so fun!
Objective | |
This general education course, Exploring Laser Remote Sensing, is designed to demystify laser sensing technology through engaging, real-world applications—from robot vacuum navigation to smartphone facial recognition. By examining how we "see the world with light," the course cultivates scientific literacy, helping students interpret remote sensing data in news reports and think critically about technology. Through vivid analogies like "giving Earth a CT scan," we aim to spark curiosity: arts students will discover the creativity in engineering, while STEM students will appreciate the humanistic dimensions of tech. Ultimately, the course builds a bridge between science and daily life, equipping learners with a broader perspective and sharper judgment in our digital age. Understanding laser remote sensing isn’t just about technology—it’s about gaining a new lens to observe the world.
